On June 16, 2011, the federal Food & Drug Administration notified doctorsthat the Prescribing Information for Chantix will be strengthened to inform the public that use of varenicline may be associated with a small, increased risk of certain cardiovascular adverse events in patients who have cardiovascular disease.

Doctors were warned that the known benefits of Chantix must be weighed against its potential risks when deciding to use the drug in smokers with cardiovascular disease.

On July 22, 2011, the FDA announced a label change for Chantix.

The attorneys at Jones Ward PLC recently filed a lawsuit against Abbott Laboratories on behalf of a Kentucky family over the recalled product Similac Isomil Soy Baby Formula. The product, which was recalled in September of 2010 for having beetle parts beginning in August 2008, caused the family's infant son to suffer a pyloric stenosis and have a feeding tube inserted. Numerous Similac products were recalled by Abbott, although Abbott has denied that the tainted product caused injuries.
